Not sure if this is the right place to ask this or not but does anyone know if Traction Control can be installed on a 2000 Formula? If so how it's done and how long will it take? I would appreciate any help Thanx

I'm sure it can be done by the dealer. TCS is an option from the factory, why didn't you get it at that time. TCS add on now may be a little expensive.

What is happening is I have not bought the car yet and it has just about everything I want (LS1,M6, option 1SB ,it's black on black) except leather int. ( want beautiful KatzKin leather kit anyway)and it does not have Traction control. I have searched the web nation wide and have yet to find and M6 with TCS. I talked to the service tech.at dealer and he said he never had anyone ask to do that before and wouldn't know all the parts involved. I don't want to order one because I have a 93 T/A trade with $7800 balance and that complicates things.Do I really need it anyways? I belive when I up grade to a beaffier rearend (Strange Eng. or 12 bolt) that it will not be compatible and will be disabled, do you know if thats true? Thanx for your help

I have it on my TA and I always turn it iff as soon as I get in the car, it's almost reflex now.
I honestly belive it would be a waste of your time and money you would most likely never really use it especially if you have no plans to drive it in the rain.
I see you already had the 93 TA so it would just be the same as driving that.
I honestly don't know if you can use it with a 12 bolt anyway.

Sorry for the ramble.

No Problem, if you have the car before June 3rd you should come the Sac raceway.

Good Luck

I do beg to differ on Mark's opinion... (no offense at all, just going to voice my opinion) I always keep mine on unless I need to do some "spirited" driving. Mine is a daily driver, rain or shine and the TCS really helps out a lot in the rain. In the dry it really isn't of much use but once the roads are wet, I think it makes a big difference. I know it's saved my ass a couple times already. (Tried driving with it off for a while in the rain... bad idea) Or it could just be my bad driving. http://206.251.12.71/noncgi/wink.gif

My SS does not have it, and I dont think it is really needed, just another thing to go wrong. When it rains just drive easy, its that simple. Also if you upgrade later to a 12 bolt or 9 inch the traction control will not work with those rearends from what I have heard.

I had it on my '95 Formula. It was good in the rain, but sucked in the dry. I turned it off everytime I started the car in the dry. I am glad I didn't get it on my '99.

I have a technical question about this discussion. Why would the rearend make a difference about whether this install will work or not? Correct me if I'm wrong, but the TCS works with the ABS system, the throttle system, and, of course, the PCM. It senses wheel slip and adjusts the brakes and throttle. What kind of rearend you have is immaterial. So changing the gears, or the rearend, won't make a difference. Now, that of course doesn't have anything to do with whether you should or could install this expensive system. 99zM6Black/flowmaster/whisper/K&N.

From what i understand changing the gears will not effect the traction control but changing the whole rearend will. I know the abs will work on the 12 bolts but I dont think the traction control does. On the Ford 9 inch rearends you can get for our cars it kills both the ABS and the traction control.

Personal opinon but I leave it on all the time wet or dry. The only time I turn it off is when I hit the track. I also believe that it will work with the 12 bolt rearends. Size of the gear has nothing to do with it as long as all the fittings for the ABS, etc are retained, including reluctor wheels/gears. Ask Ralph. If I'm not mistaken I believe his is still functioning unless he is racing.

I think your ? was answered but if not.The aftermarket 12's do come with the TCS if requested for an additional I believe $400.oo.Like everyone has said TCS save your butt in the rain.I didn't order it simply cause I had one thing in mind and that was to go fast in dry weather and stay safe in wet.TooZmaxx said it pretty well, drive a little slower in the rain and you should be fine.

My point was that the 93 Dynogirl alreaady has dosen't have TCS so it would not make that much difference. I got used to driving in the rain in my 94 formula so driving in the 2000 with it turned off is really no big deal. But in the end it is all personal opinion Brian likes his on (BTW no offense taken http://206.251.12.71/noncgi/smile.gif) I happen to not. It actually kinda freaks me out when the wheels start to slip and i can feel the car correct without me doing anything. I would do whatever makes you the most comfortable.

I dealing with the aftermarket rear end question I do not know if it is an automatic transfer with a direct swap 12 bolt. Both Motoman and Postal have good points it would make sence that there would be extra connections on the rearend for the TCS so it can sense the wheel spin.

DynoGirl,

If your car came with ABS only, you must change rear ends to get TCS/ASR. The reluctor ring for ABS only cars is inside the differential next to the ring gear. The cars with ABS/TCS have reluctor rings at all 4 corners that is shared by both systems. You must also add another computer. The one for ABS does ABS only. The one for ABS/TCS has both sets of code, PLUS the code and controls for the Cruise Control (if I'm not mistaken). It also requires the TCS/Cruise Control cable controller module that mounts unser the hood.

I have TCS on my car, and I leave it OFF.

I made damn sure when I ordered my Z not to get that damn traction control. Dont use a crutch! Learn to drive your car in wet or dry!

Another problem is some folks have forgoptten to turn it off at the strip and have blown runs because of it.

I have the crappy traction control and like Mark, turn it off right when I start the car. Half the time I don't even remember turning it off, it's just reflex.

Yes, I have been one of the unlucky ones that forgot to turn it off at Sears Point when I first got my car. When you only get 3-4 runs a night, it's no fun wasting one b/c of the stupid traction control.

Thank You all VERY MUCH ! I have heard enough of your merits for TCS to appreciate TCS. But I have also heard enough of your arguements against it that I no longer care that this Formula does not have it. Also I do have experience driving in the rain (1 bad one, very close but no damage)and I learned my lesson from that . So I think I should be alright without it. Thanx again for the help ,when I get it you'll be the first to know and SEE! LS1,M6,PWR everything, glass tops, blk on blk, what more could I want?

Yeah but I'll take the $3500 I saved put in a set of cnc heads & cam and lay waste to a WS6. Besides I want a Raptor hood with the open element breather.

My thoughts exactly Dynogirl, although there is a beutiful NBM Firehawk that I am eyeing right now all Y2Y options. If I pass on the Hawk it will be a 396 twin turbo for me.
