View Full Version : Setting the fuel pressure safety switch?

I thought my old FPSS went out, so I bought a new one. With the old one it would surge and stop. Almost like I was turning the system off and on. To test it, I bypassed the FPSS and the car took off. Perfectly fine. I ran the 11.69 with it bypassed.

Well now I have the new one in and it started (faintly) to surge again. Is this a sign something is wrong with the fuel system and the FPSS is warning me or do I have to set it at a certain pressure? And if I do, how do I set it without a pressure gauge? I took it right out of the package and installed it. The instructions only show you how to set it on a carbed motor with a fuel pressure gauge. Not even close to how we have to do it.

Any advise might help, I dont wanna go blowin stuff up with low fuel pressure.

Mine started doing the same thing this week. I have the 5177 dry system. It turned out to be that the FPSS was out of whack. Take out the small round rubber cover at the end of the switch. There is an allen bolt in there. Turn counter-lockwise to set the pressure sensor lower. One click did it for me. NOS said that they sometimes come loose due to vibration, Etc.
