I presume that Carbon Wraped NOS bottles need to be Hydrostaticaly tested every so often. I have a Carbon Wraped Compressed air tank that I need tested. Who around here can perform this test? More specificaly I need to find someone that has the ability to remove the valve off of the Tank, I can send it to get tested out of state.. but It has to be without the valve.

You can remove the valve yourself. They sell replacement valves, but I can't remember what size wrench you need to twist them off. Why do you want a carbon fiber bottle anyway? It does hold 12.5 lbs instead of 10 lbs, but if you want more juice, just get the 15 lb bottle. The NOS catalog says it weights half of a normal bottle empty. A 10 lb bottle weighs about 15 lbs so the 12.5 lb carbon fiber bottle would be about 7.5 lbs. It retails for $644.80 where the normal 10 lb bottle retails for $247.35 and the 15 lb bottle retails for $306.40. The weight savings (for an f-body) just doesn't seem to justify the cost.

I think you misunderstood my post. This is not a NOS bottle. I figured this would be a good place to ask about it as most presurized vesels are required to be hydrostaticaly tested every 5 years or 3 years depending on the psi of the unit.
What I really need is a brute man to pull that bad boy off of there http://www.norcal-ls1.com/noncgi/wink.gif I'd take it off myself except that I can not seem to get any leverage on the bottle to wrench the valve off.

You are right I didn't understand your post... wasn't too clear. Anyway, yes the NOS bottles have to be re-certified every 5 years too. Some places that fill check for that, but I have never heard of anyone getting a NOS bottle re-certified. What is the pressure rating on the cylinder you have now? The NOS bottles are rated up to 5,000 psi I belive and have a blowoff valve set to blow at 3,000 psi. You will most likely not get above 1400 psi even on the hottest of days though.

What valve would you use? It doesn't have a siphon tube, right? So you would have to mount the bottle upside down (which is not that hard I guess.) What size bottle do you have, dimensions?

What might help you get leverage on the bottle is to use a strap wrench. Or if you want to stay cheap and not have to search for a strap wrench (I think Sears sells them though they might not be big enough) you could use a belt. Wrap the belt around the bottle in the right direction and sinch it down. Then have one person sit on the bottle and hold the belt tight. Then you should be able to break the valve loose.

It worked? Great! Did you find a strap wrench or use a belt? Glad it worked out for you.
